Any community in Michigan that has a Zoning Ordinance is, likewise, required to have a Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA). Putnam Township’s ZBA consists of seven members, all appointed to three-year terms.
The ZBA was created to decide variance requests, interpret the Zoning Ordinance and to hear appeals of those who are affected by any provision of the Ordinance. The ZBA recognizes that an ordinance cannot possibly anticipate how every property in the Township might be affected by that ordinance. The ZBA, however, does not have the power to grant variances to uses allowed in the zoning districts.
Meetings of the ZBA are scheduled at the call of the Chairperson and at other times that the ZBA may specify. All meetings take place at the Township Hall and can be attended in person or via Zoom at this link.
If you wish to participate in Township government by serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals, please send a resume to supervisor@putnamtwp.us with a message indicating your interest in serving. When we have an opening to fill, you will be contacted for more information and a possible interview by the Board of Trustees.
If you have questions, or need more information regarding the ZBA, contact our Zoning Administrator, Tom Lewis via email or at the Township phone number below.
